A Perfect Fall Day in Zell am See—Our Tips from the Hotel Latini
Glowing forests, crisp mountain air, and often surprisingly mild, sunny days: For us, fall is one of the most beautiful times of year in Zell am See. What would a perfect fall vacation day look like? Let us take you on a journey—from a cozy breakfast at Hotel Latini, through the mountains and by the lake, to a relaxing end to the day at the Gold Spa.
8:00 a.m. – Start the day at a relaxed pace
A perfect fall day can certainly start off at a leisurely pace. At our breakfast at the Hotel Latini, you can fuel up for the day from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
After all, when the first rays of sunlight hit the mountains and the temperatures are still a bit chilly, you don't necessarily have to be up on the mountain at seven o'clock.
Coffee, a hearty breakfast, and then we'll decide: the mountains, the lake, or maybe both?
Our recommendation is clear: both.
9:30 a.m. – Up to the Schmittenhöhe
In the fall, the bus will take you comfortably from the hotel toward Zell am See to the base station of the Schmittenhöhebahn. From there, take the gondola up to the summit of the Schmittenhöhe.
The drive up is worth it in itself: the higher you go, the wider the view of Lake Zell and the surrounding mountains becomes.
The view is especially beautiful in the fall. Down in the valley, the forests glow with autumn colors; Lake Zell lies between them, and all around, the panoramic view of the Salzburg mountains unfolds.
Whether you're planning a hike up there or just want to take a short walk and enjoy the view, you can decide on the spot.
Our tip: Always pack an extra layer of clothing in the fall. While it can be pleasantly warm in the valley, temperatures on the mountain are often significantly cooler.
12:30 p.m. – Time for a break
After a few hours on the mountain, a culinary treat is a must.
Depending on the tour, it might be a good idea to stop for a break on the mountain. Or you can head back down to the valley and make your way toward Zell am See.
And that's exactly what we'd recommend for our perfect fall day.
2:00 p.m. – Fall walk along Lake Zell
In the afternoon, we're heading to the lake.
When the surrounding mountains are reflected in the water and the intense summer heat has passed, Lake Zell reveals its most relaxing side.
You don't have to walk all the way around the lake just to take a stroll. Just pick a nice spot along the shore, take some time to rest, and enjoy the view.
If you're traveling without a car, you can easily get around using public transportation. With the Guest Mobility Ticket Salzburg, public transportation throughout the SalzburgerLand is already included for our guests.
Through October 31: Take Advantage of the Summer Menu
"Summer Menu" might sound a little unusual in the fall at first—but that's exactly why we want to point it out:
Guests staying at the Hotel Latini will receive the Zell am See-Kaprun Summer Card, valid through October 31.
This means that numerous mountain railways, tourist attractions, and other vacation experiences are included or offered at a discount.
Especially for a fall vacation, it’s therefore a good idea to check which services and mountain railways are currently available before heading out on a day trip.
4:30 p.m. – Back to the hotel and off to the Gold Spa
After breathing in the mountain air, hiking, and taking a walk, one of the best parts of an autumn day is yet to come for us:
Put on your bathrobe and head over to the Gold Spa.
Our indoor pool is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Our saunas are also turned on starting at 3:00 p.m.
Now it's time to slow things down a bit on this vacation day: swim a few laps in the pool, enjoy the heat in the sauna, and then just relax in the relaxation area.
And if you'd like to treat your tired legs to something special after a day on the mountain, you can enjoy a massage at our Gold Spa . We recommend booking your desired treatment appointment well in advance.
Especially when it gets dark earlier and cooler outside, this combination of being active and enjoying wellness is the best part of fall for us.
7:00 p.m. – Wind down the day at a leisurely pace
After a day like that, dinner is a must.
Our guests on a half-board plan enjoy their dinner from 6:30 p. m. to 8:30 p.m.
If you prefer to decide on the spur of the moment, our Papa Rudolfo pizzeria offers pizza, pasta, salads, and other dishes. Afterward, why not enjoy a drink at our UNO Bar —and your perfect fall day is complete.
Why We Especially Love Fall in Zell am See
In the summer, the lake and mountains beckon; in the winter, much of the focus is on skiing. Fall is a wonderful blend of the two.
The days are getting quieter, the landscape is changing colors, and yet there’s still so much to do outdoors. Hiking, walking, going on outings—and then spending a few hours in the spa without feeling guilty.
For us, a perfect fall day doesn't require any big plans.
A little bit of the mountains. A little bit of the lake. Lots of fresh air. And plenty of time to enjoy it all.
This is exactly what an fall vacation in Zell am See should be like.
