Family Hotel in Zell am See with an Indoor Pool
Hotel Latini is a family-run four-star hotel in Zell am See-Schüttdorf with family rooms (sofa bed for two children), cots on request, an indoor pool where children are welcome by day and, in the summer holidays, the tourism board's free Cool Kids programme. The areitXpress gondola is about 5 to 7 minutes' walk away, and Lake Zell about 15 minutes.
I'm Ursula Auer from Hotel Latini. For me, Zell am See is not just where I work; it is a place I have grown very fond of, with its mountains, its lake and some truly special moments.
Hotel Latini for families at a glance
When you compare family hotels in Zell am See, look at how far the lift and the lake are, what the pool rules are for children and which meals you can have at the hotel.

Babies and toddlers: cots, baby equipment and pushchairs
Cots are available on request, subject to availability, so ask for one when you book rather than on arrival; for photos, see the hotel's family holiday page. The rooms and suites differ in two ways that matter with a baby: only the junior suites have a fridge, which is worth knowing if you need somewhere cold for milk, and while every family room takes at most 4 people, the 'Edelweiß' junior suite can take a cot on top of that.
There are high chairs in the restaurant. For any other baby equipment, such as a baby bath or a bottle warmer, and whether anything can be borrowed or hired, ask the hotel before you travel, on +43 6542 5425 or at office@latini.at, so you know what to pack. If you are counting on babysitting or childcare, ask about that before you book.
With a pushchair, check a trip before you set off: according to the tourism board, some of the many family outings in the area, in summer and in winter, are suitable for pushchairs.
The nearest bus stops are Schüttdorf ÖBB-Postbus Garage, 5 minutes' walk from the hotel, and Schüttdorf Areitbahn by the areitXpress, 8 minutes away. The Salzburg Mobility Ticket, included for every guest, covers public transport across the whole province of Salzburg, on arrival and departure days too.
Children in the pool and the spa
The Gold Spa is included for hotel guests, and children are welcome in the pool during the day. The pool is about 5 x 11 metres and kept at about 28 °C, and it is open from 7 am to 9 pm. From 6 pm it belongs to adults and young people aged 14 and over who follow the spa rules, so young people aged 14 and over can swim in the evening too. The saunas (Finnish sauna, bio sauna, steam room and infrared cabin) are from age 14 and textile-free. More on the indoor pool and Gold Spa.
If your children want slides, the Tauern Spa in Kaprun has Kidstein, a children's spa kept separate from the rest of the spa, with a 127-metre tube slide (Tauern Spa). In Zell am See itself, the leisure centre has an indoor pool, under the same roof as the ice rink.
Things to do with kids in Zell am See in summer
Summer here revolves around the lake and the two family mountains, and most of it is within walking distance or a bus ride of the hotel.
- Lake Zell. There are three lidos around the lake, and each has pools as well as lake access, plus slides, trampolines, diving towers and water sports from stand-up paddling to surfing (tourism board). The Seespitz lido is about 15 minutes on foot from the hotel, which is in Schüttdorf rather than on the lakeside. If you are still choosing an area, Hotel Der Schütthof, the sister hotel next door, compares Schüttdorf, the town centre and Kaprun in its guide to where to stay in Zell am See.
- The Schmittenhöhe. The areitXpress, the gondola from Schüttdorf up Zell am See's own mountain, is a short walk from the hotel. In summer, Schmidolin, the Schmittenhöhe's dragon, has his own adventure world, where children help him through his trial by fire with dares and puzzles. On a wet day, the Kids Indoor Park Areit 1400 at the areitXpress mountain station has a slide car track and a bouncy castle, according to the lift company.
- Kaprun. On the Maiskogel, the Maisi Flitzer alpine coaster runs 365 days a year, and the Kitzsteinhorn lifts are open all year for sightseeing visitors. The tourism board also suggests the Sigmund Thun Gorge and the Kaprun High Mountain Reservoirs.
- Rainy days. Kidstein at the Tauern Spa and the indoor pool at the leisure centre in Zell am See.
The Zell am See-Kaprun Summer Card (Sommerkarte) is included at Hotel Latini from 15 May to 31 October. It covers the Schmittenhöhe, Kitzsteinhorn (not the 3K K-ONNECTION) and Maiskogel lifts, the boat trips on Lake Zell and the lidos. Hotel Der Schütthof explains what the Summer Card covers in full. For the town centre and Kaprun, take the bus from the stops near the hotel with the Mobility Ticket.
Winter with children
What makes a hotel good for skiing with children is mostly logistics: how far the lift is, where the skis live, and how far the little ones have to walk to their lessons. At Hotel Latini, ski hire and ski instructors are in-house, there is a ski room, and the children's ski schools and meeting points are within walking distance. Lift passes are available at the main reception, which is also where you book ski lessons with the ski instructor. The areitXpress valley station is about 5 to 7 minutes on foot. For the bigger picture, read Hotel Der Schütthof's guide to skiing in Zell am See, and for the hotel itself in the cold months, winter at Hotel Latini.
When the season starts. The Schmittenhöhe plans to start the 2026/27 winter season on 4 December 2026, and the areitXpress is planned to run from that day until 4 April 2027, 8.30 am to 4.30 pm, snow and weather permitting. The hotel itself is closed from 26 October to 26 November 2026.
Where children learn. On the Schmittenhöhe, children start in Schmidolin's Kinder-Skiland, where the adventure begins on a magic carpet called Schmidolin's Dragon Tunnel. From there they move on to the Kidsslope, with its obstacles, waves, tunnels and slalom courses, and once they have outgrown it, to the Funslope XXL (schmitten.at). Over in Kaprun, families feel especially at home on the Maiskogel, says the tourism board, and its Maisi Park lets even the smallest skiers have their first go on wave tracks.
What children pay for a lift pass. In winter 2026/27, children born in 2021 or later ride free with an adult, on the Schmittenhöhe (photo required) and on the Kitzsteinhorn and the Maiskogel alike. For older children's prices and age bands, see Hotel Der Schütthof's guide to children's lift passes (Ski ALPIN CARD).
Off the slopes. The Köhlergraben toboggan run through the Schmittental is about 1 km long, built for families and open daily until 10 pm when there is enough snow, according to the tourism board (tobogganing). A little longer, and also floodlit, is the toboggan run in nearby Bruck; book ahead and the Rodelexpress takes you up to the Berggasthof Kohlschnait, a mountain inn. The ice rink in Zell am See has public skating, and the Maisi Flitzer in Kaprun keeps running all winter.
Getting here from the UK, and what is included
If you fly into Salzburg, the airport is about 80 km from the hotel. Hotel Latini does not run its own airport transfer, but reception will gladly order a taxi for you. If you come by train, Zell am See station is about 3 km away, and the hotel's free station shuttle runs daily from 8 am to 6 pm; book it at least 24 hours before you arrive. Driving? The underground car park is free and needs no booking, but its maximum height is 2.15 metres, so check before you arrive with a roof box.
How expensive a holiday here turns out depends on your dates. The current rates are in the booking engine or available by phone, and booking direct gets you the best available rate. Your stay includes the Gold Spa, the Salzburg Mobility Ticket and, from 15 May to 31 October, the Zell am See-Kaprun Summer Card.
Meals at the hotel: breakfast is a buffet from 7 am to 10.30 am. Half board adds dinner from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm, with a five-course choice menu or a themed buffet and children's dishes. For a less formal evening, Papa Rudolfo, our pizzeria, serves pizza, pasta, burgers, salads and Austrian dishes from 11.30 am to 10 pm, with the kitchen open until 9.30 pm; in 2026 it is closed from 11 October and reopens on 10 December. For eating out in town, see our guide to restaurants in Zell am See.

Working in quality management, I am involved in all sorts of things at the hotel: sometimes at reception, sometimes in the office, and really wherever there is something to be done. For me, Zell am See is not just where I work; it is a place I have grown very fond of, with its mountains, its lake and some truly special moments. My personal highlight: a few runs on the Schmittenhöhe, with the glorious view over Zell am See and the surrounding mountains.
