Where to Eat in Zell am See: Restaurants by Area and Occasion
Papa Rudolfo, our restaurant and pizzeria at Hotel Latini in Schüttdorf, is open to everyone daily from 11.30 am to 10 pm, with the kitchen open until 9.30 pm; this year it closes on 11 October and reopens on 10 December 2026. By the lake, Pinzga Bräu at the Grand Hotel looks over the water; in town, the Salzburgerstube is the gourmet choice.
I'm Ursula Auer from Hotel Latini. For me, Zell am See is not just where I work; it is a place I have grown very fond of, with its mountains, its lake and some truly special moments.

Schüttdorf: Papa Rudolfo and the places near Hotel Latini
Papa Rudolfo is our own restaurant and pizzeria at Hotel Latini, Kitzsteinhornstraße 4. The menu runs from pizza and pasta to burgers, salads and Austrian dishes, so if you are staying in Schüttdorf, lunch or dinner needs no trip into town.
In summer, Papa Rudolfo moves out onto the terrace of the beer garden between Hotel Latini and Hotel Der Schütthof next door, with an outdoor kitchen. Latini's beer garden runs from about the end of May to mid-September; after that, Papa Rudolfo moves back indoors.
If you are staying with us on half board, dinner is a five-course choice menu or a themed buffet, served daily from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Photos and more about the hotel's own restaurant and pizzeria are on the Restaurant & Pizzeria page.
For dinner, I am always happy to recommend the Village Kitchen, a restaurant and lounge on the same street as Hotel Latini, at Kitzsteinhornstraße 22. The summer 2026 menu runs from beef broth, gazpacho and Sicilian fish soup to tuna crudo, black linguine and paella, with cordon bleu, calf's liver and fillet steak among the mains. It opens in the evening, from 4 pm to 11 pm: Tuesday to Saturday in the summer season (until 23 October 2026), and, according to the tourist board, Wednesday to Saturday in the winter season from 1 December 2026.
Breakfast at Hotel Latini is not just for our own guests: the buffet is open to non-residents too, daily from 7 am to 10.30 am. For breakfast or lunch elsewhere, Cafe Untes is on Kitzsteinhornstraße, the same street as Hotel Latini. It is a café for the morning and midday, good for a leisurely brunch or just coffee and pastries, and the spelt sourdough toasts are the thing to order. It opens Monday to Saturday from 6 am to 6 pm and on Sunday from 7 am to 5 pm.
Basmati, a small restaurant on Brucker Bundesstraße in Schüttdorf, serves Indian and Italian specialities. It is known for its daal, a soup of red lentils, and also does baked samosas, and you can order any dish to take away. It opens daily from 11 am to 10 pm, and reservations are by email.
Restaurants with a view of Lake Zell
For dinner with a view of Lake Zell, go to the lake itself, or to Villa Crazy Daisy in town. From Hotel Latini the lake is about 15 minutes on foot, and the Salzburg Mobility Ticket, included for our guests, covers public transport across the province of Salzburg.
At Pinzga Bräu, the Grand Hotel's inn on a peninsula of Lake Zell, you can sit with a view over the lake or out in the guest garden. The inn has its own brewery, and its home-brewed Pinzgau beer comes in clay steins (the Pinzgau is the region around Zell am See), alongside regional specialities and classic Austrian dishes.
The Grand Hotel's restaurants serve daily from 12 noon to 9 pm in the summer season; ring ahead in winter. For dinner, book a table in the Kaisersaal or the Belvedere. The Pinzga Bräu beer garden is a summer affair, open from 16 May.
On the northern shore of Lake Zell, the Seecamp Restaurant by Rudi Eder sits along the lakeshore, with views of the lake and the Hohe Tauern mountains. The cooking combines Austrian traditions with a contemporary flair. Its season runs from 24 April to 31 October 2026: Monday and Wednesday to Saturday from 11 am to midnight, Sunday from 10 am to 10 pm.
Traditional Austrian food
A few names you will meet on menus here:
- Kaiserschmarrn: a thick pancake torn into pieces in the pan, dusted with icing sugar and usually served with fruit compote.
- Kasnocken and Kasspatzln: close cousins, small soft dumplings tossed with strong cheese and topped with crisp fried onions.
- Schweinsbraten: roast pork.
- Gansl: Austrian for goose, hence the autumn goose days (Gansltage).
For the classics, head up to the Limberghof: crispy roast pork (Schweinsbraten), Kasnocken and Kaiserschmarrn, plus trout from its own pond. In summer there is a barbecue evening every Thursday from June to September.
The Steinerwirt in the town centre, on Dreifaltigkeitsgasse, cooks Austrian food with a modern approach: classic Austrian dishes with contemporary influences, and a carefully chosen wine list. It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 12 noon to 10 pm, with the kitchen open until 9 pm, but only until 1 November 2026. From 23 October to 1 November 2026 it holds its goose days (Gansltage). To book, send a table request through the Steinerwirt's website; your table is only confirmed once they reply in writing by email.
A special evening
For a gourmet dinner, book the Salzburgerstube, Hotel Salzburgerhof's à la carte restaurant on Auerspergstraße. It holds 3 toques and 16 of 20 points from Gault&Millau, and 95 points and 4 forks in the Falstaff Restaurant & Gasthausguide 2026; toques, called Hauben in Austria, are Gault&Millau's chef's hats, and Falstaff awards forks. The kitchen brings together alpine tradition and modern gourmet cooking, served in a traditional dining room with fine wood carving, a tiled stove and elegant table settings. Book by phone.
I am also happy to recommend Kraftwerk, a restaurant and wine bar on Schmittenstraße in town. Brickwork, timber beams and an old power station from 1934 give the place its character; the cooking is upmarket Austrian, creatively presented, and the wine list currently runs to about 1,850 wines. It opens on Monday and from Wednesday to Sunday, 6 pm to 11 pm, and you need to book, by phone or email.
Eating out with children
With children, the Limberghof is a good bet: it has a garden and a playground at the inn. It sits above Zell am See, about five minutes by car from the centre, and its restaurant, Zum Saustall, welcomes everyone, whether you are staying at the inn or just coming to eat. It opens daily from 5.30 pm, and at lunchtime too in summer, and in the warmer months there is a sun terrace with a garden view.
For families staying with us, Papa Rudolfo is the easy choice on a tired evening, because it is at the hotel. If you need a children's menu or a high chair anywhere, ask ahead. For the rest of a family stay, see family holidays at Hotel Latini.
In town: evenings out, Italian dishes and live music
Deins & Meins on Schloßplatz puts a restaurant, a bar and a lounge under one roof: Italian antipasti, steaks and homemade pasta, then karaoke, darts or billiards if the evening carries on. It opens in the evenings, Monday and Thursday to Sunday from 5 pm to midnight, with the kitchen open until 11 pm. From 30 October 2026 the same hours run until 29 March 2027. Book by email.
Villa Crazy Daisy, on Salzmannstraße near the train station, is a restaurant and bar on three floors with a view of Lake Zell. The menu mixes local ingredients with international flair; have a coffee on the sun terrace, or look out to the lake from the balcony. Live music is a special feature: in winter a different band plays every day from 23 December, and in summer the house band plays on Sundays and Mondays from 8 pm. It is open all year, daily from 10 am to 12.30 am, apart from a break from 26 April to 12 May.
Eating out in November
Mid-October to early December is the quietest time of year in Zell am See, and plenty of places close. Papa Rudolfo is closed from 11 October and reopens on 10 December 2026. Villa Crazy Daisy is open all year, and Deins & Meins opens in the evenings.

Working in quality management, I am involved in all sorts of things at the hotel: sometimes at reception, sometimes in the office, and really wherever there is something to be done. For me, Zell am See is not just where I work; it is a place I have grown very fond of, with its mountains, its lake and some truly special moments. My personal highlight: a few runs on the Schmittenhöhe, with the glorious view over Zell am See and the surrounding mountains.
