Spa Hotel in Austria's Salzburg Region with an Indoor Pool
Hotel Latini is a family-run four-star spa hotel in Austria's Salzburg region, in Zell am See-Schüttdorf rather than the city of Salzburg, which is about 1.5 hours away by car. The indoor pool, Finnish sauna, bio sauna, steam room and infrared cabin are included for guests, and children are welcome in the pool during the day.
I'm Ursula Auer from Hotel Latini. Working in quality management, I am involved in all sorts of things at the hotel: sometimes at reception, sometimes in the office, and really wherever there is something to be done.
The hotel is closed from 26 October to 26 November 2026.
In the Salzburg region, not the city of Salzburg
"Salzburg" is both a city and a province, and the two are easy to mix up when you book from the UK. Hotel Latini is in the province, the region Austrians call the SalzburgerLand: in Zell am See-Schüttdorf, about 15 minutes on foot from Lake Zell and the Seespitz lido. Salzburg airport is about 80 km away; the city of Salzburg is about 1.5 hours by car.
That shapes the kind of break you get. This is a lake-and-mountains stay with the spa in the hotel: a day outdoors, then the pool and the saunas before dinner. Salzburg itself is a day trip from here rather than an evening out.

What's included in the Gold Spa
The Gold Spa is the hotel's own pool and sauna area, and it comes with your room. Bathrobes, slippers and sauna towels are ready for you, so there is nothing to pack beyond your swimwear.
| Gold Spa at Hotel Latini | |
|---|---|
| Indoor pool | about 5 x 11 metres, about 28 °C, open daily 7 am to 9 pm |
| Saunas | Finnish sauna, bio sauna, steam room and infrared cabin, open daily 3 pm to 9 pm |
| Sauna age | from 14 |
| Swimwear in the saunas | none: the saunas are textile-free |
| Children in the pool | welcome during the day |
| From 6 pm | the pool and saunas are for adults and young people aged 14 and over who follow the spa rules |
| Gym | open daily 7 am to 9 pm |
| For guests | included, with bathrobes, slippers and sauna towels |
Check-in is from 3 pm, which is also when the saunas open, so on the day you arrive you can be in the steam room within the hour. Half board adds a five-course choice menu or a themed buffet, with dinner daily from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm; vegetarian dishes are always on, and gluten-free or lactose-free cooking is possible if you tell the hotel before you arrive. For pool rules and the spa in full, see the pool and Gold Spa in detail.
Also included in your stay is the Salzburg Mobility Ticket, the region's Guest Mobility Ticket: public transport across the whole province of Salzburg, arrival and departure days included. It is paid for by a mobility tax of €0.50 per person aged 15 and over per night (1 May 2025 to 30 April 2027; €1.10 from 1 May 2027), so it is included rather than free.
Treatments, and a spa day without staying
The Gold Spa treatment list covers massages, for example a classic massage, an aroma oil treatment and a hot stone massage, and beauty treatments such as a classic facial, a sea salt scrub and an aroma oil wrap on the soft-pack lounger. Treatments cost extra, for hotel guests too; everything on offer, with its price, is in the Gold Spa brochure. Massages and treatments are best booked before you arrive.
Friends or family staying elsewhere in the valley can book a spa day without staying: the indoor pool, the saunas, the gym and massages or other treatments, booked by phone on +43 6542 5425.
If you are staying in the city of Salzburg and want a day spa there, Zell am See is a long way to go for an afternoon. The closer thermal spa is Aqua Salza in Golling, according to SalzburgerLand Tourismus, under half an hour from Salzburg.
Can children use the spa?
Yes, in the pool during the day. From 6 pm the pool and saunas are for adults and young people aged 14 and over who follow the spa rules, and the saunas are from age 14 at any time. So if your children are under 14, plan the family swim for the daytime.
Hotel Latini welcomes families and is not an adults-only hotel. Family rooms have a sofa bed for two children, and cots are available on request, subject to availability. If the children are coming on a thermal spa day out, check the ages first: the Tauern Spa's sauna world is from 15, and so is its adults-only Hotel Panorama SPA, which is not part of the day ticket. At the Alpentherme Gastein, children under 6 go in free and the child rate (6 to 15) does not include the sauna world. More on family holidays at Hotel Latini.
Thermal spas within reach
The Gold Spa is for a swim and a sauna around your day. For a whole day at a thermal spa, the Salzburg region has three within easy reach of Zell am See, all on public transport covered by the Mobility Ticket. Which one suits you depends on the day you have in mind: a family day out, a long sauna day with an outdoor sauna village, or a thermal spa built into the rock.

Tauern Spa prices are from-prices and change with availability and the booking date. Alpentherme prices are for 2026; its guest-card rate of €49.00 applies only with a guest card such as the Gastein Card, so guests staying in Zell am See pay the regular €50.50.
The Alpentherme Gastein lies on 36,000 m² of grounds, and its sauna world includes a sauna village outdoors. Its sauna area is for nude guests (apart from the family sauna), which is the same textile-free custom you find in the Gold Spa. The Felsentherme was built into the rock in 1968, according to the operator, Austria's first public thermal spa (2025/26 price list); it sits at 1,100 m and has eight saunas and steam baths, and ÖBB customers get a discount. According to SalzburgerLand Tourismus, the thermal water in both Gastein spas contains radon.
Getting here from the UK
Salzburg airport is about 80 km from Zell am See and Munich airport about 200 km. A new ÖBB timetable starts on 13 December 2026, so check the times for your own travel date before you go.
- Salzburg airport: bus 260 runs direct to Zell am See station in about 1 hr 54.
- Salzburg Hauptbahnhof: direct, no change, about 1 hr 35 to 1 hr 45 by train. Bus 260 takes longer, about 2 hr 16 to 2 hr 21.
- Munich Hauptbahnhof: about 2 hr 51 with one change. On busy Saturdays ÖBB warns that only a seat reservation guarantees you a seat.
- Vienna Hauptbahnhof: about 4 hr 16 with one change; the Westbahn also runs direct, three times a day according to the tourism board.
- By car: about 1.5 hours from Salzburg and about 2.5 hours from Munich. The hotel's underground car park is free, video-monitored and needs no booking; the maximum height is 2.15 metres.
Zell am See station is about 3 km from the hotel. The free station shuttle runs daily from 8 am to 6 pm; book it at least 24 hours before you arrive. The hotel has no airport transfer of its own, but reception will gladly order you a taxi.
Every overnight guest aged 6 and over gets their own Mobility Ticket, and children up to 14 do not pay the mobility tax. According to the tourism board, the ticket already covers the journey from Salzburg if a pre-check-in has been completed; ask the hotel before you travel. Seat reservations are not included.

Working in quality management, I am involved in all sorts of things at the hotel: sometimes at reception, sometimes in the office, and really wherever there is something to be done. For me, Zell am See is not just where I work; it is a place I have grown very fond of, with its mountains, its lake and some truly special moments. My personal highlight: a few runs on the Schmittenhöhe, with the glorious view over Zell am See and the surrounding mountains.
